Burbank is a city in Los Angeles County, California, with a population of more than 100,000.

Burbank is considered by many as two distinct areas. The first being its downtown, civic center and key neighborhoods (nestled next to the Verdugo Mountains), and second being the flatlands at the eastern end of the San Fernando Valley.

Burbank's economy is based on the entertainment industry. While many consider Hollywood the symbol of the entertainment industry, the reality is much of the actual production occurs in the city of Burbank.

So much so that Burbank has been named the "Media Capital of the World,". This is probably because so many media and entertainment companies are headquartered or have significant production facilities there, including Warner Bros. Entertainment, Warner Music Group, NBC Universal, The Walt Disney Company, Viacom, and PBS, ABC, NBC, Dick Clark Productions, New Wave Entertainment, Nickelodeon, and more.

The fact that more people work in Burbank each day than live in the city, reflects its major business orientation. The combined payroll for all of Burbank's private sector businesses totaled $6.7 billion in 2005, according to the San Fernando Valley Economic Research Center at California State University-Northridge.
